Covenant Begins Intensive Care Unit Renovation
Through a joint effort of Covenant Hospital Plainview and the Hale County Hospital Authority, construction has begun on the renovation of the second floor of Covenant Hospital Plainview. The project will renovate nine rooms on the second floor to create five private Intensive Care rooms and four cardiac step-down rooms to be used for post –cardiac catheterization patients.
Today members of the community, the local physicians, Covenant Health System, and the Hale County Hospital Authority (HCHA) celebrated the start of this construction through a “First Nail Driven” ceremony today. Don Williams, Chairman of the Covenant Hospital Plainview’s Governing Board, Kevin Igo, President of the Hale County Hospital Authority, David Wright, D.O, Chief of Medical Staff for the hospital, Jonathan Wade, CEO of Covenant Hospital Plainview and Laura Langston, RN, representing the hospital nurses, each pounded in a nail to begin the project.
“Over the last 2 years the Hale County Hospital Authority and the Covenant Health System have worked to identify the future needs for this community and area. This project is a major step within that project,” said Kevin Igo, President of the HCHA.
The cost of the project is estimated to be $900,000 and will include new patient monitoring equipment throughout the facility. “Through discussions with our physicians and our patients, we knew that we needed to address our current ICU situation,” said CEO Jonathan Wade. “This project will provide not only state-of-the-art equipment, but will also provide a level of patient and visitor comfort that is not normally available to intensive care patients.”
The project is estimated to be completed in November. “The completion is well-timed, in that we are approaching the typically busy part of our year,” said Mr. Wade. “To be able to offer this level of care to our community is a major part of our mission. This renovation project shows that the community is supportive of developing strong medical services in Plainview.”
“In today’s medicine, having the right tools and equipment is essential to providing quality care,” said Dr. Wright. “This project will provide our community with those tools.”
